My name is Alera, I’m a twenty-something-year-old-Australian and I am the chief Wedding Designer and Stylist for One White Dress. You know that Steve Martin movie Father of the Bride? Well I saw it for the first time when I was about twelve and I wanted to Be Franck. Seriously, who doesn’t want to be Franck Eggelhoffer? Despite his quirky behaviours, early 90’s cravat and mixed ‘European’ accent, his job was made up of days that were spent creating something beautiful.
Not long after I purchased my very first wedding magazine. I must have hundreds of torn bookmarks and creased pages filled with all the dresses I ogled over and the cakes and bouquets I adored. For many years after, the dream was just that, a dream. It wasn’t until after graduating High School that I was given the opportunity to gain my qualifications as a Certified Wedding Consultant that my dreams started to become a reality.
I think it’s a basic human need to want to share what you love with others. You might be an avid sports follower and are exhilarated by watching the game, and then the replays and just can’t wait to gush to all your friends about the epic experience you had. For me it’s weddings. It’s the tailored bridal gowns and the coordinating bridesmaid dresses. It’s the towering cakes and miniature edible treats. It’s the magnificent floral centrepieces and elegant bridal bouquets. It’s the cute little favours and the crafted invitations. But most of all, it’s the sharing. The giving-away not only of the bride to her husband but the offering of love to those who we care about and the celebration of what matters most.
One White Dress is like my third arm. It’s an extension of myself, my personality and my vision of all things beautiful. Through this medium I want to share all the things that I love and hope to inspire new ideas and thinking with anyone and everyone who will listen. I hope this can be a place for you to take away a little piece of me and my ideas, mix it up with a whole lot of love and turn it into your One White Dress. ♥
