It’s Flower month on One White Dress… For everyone who’s been asking for ideas, inspiration plus a few tips and tricks, Roberta from Green & Bloom has teamed up with us to bring you anything and everything you need to know about Wedding Flowers! To get started she’s answering a few of the most commonly asked questions from Brides…

Question 1: How far in advance should I book a florist before my Wedding day?
Answer: As soon as possible. To ensure the florist you would love to go with for your big day is still available, it is advisable to book once you have received their quote and had a meeting. There are peak periods for weddings, and within these times some florists can be booked over 6 months in advance.
Question 2: I’m on a tight budget. What flowers will give me more bang for my buck?
Answer: It is not always just about the flowers but also the style of bouquet you choose which affect the price of wedding flowers. Bouquets which need a lot of wiring such as those incorporating Orchids wired into a posy shape or a trailing/cascade bouquet will not only incorporate more flowers, but these styles will also take the florist much more time to construct and finish. On the other hand, more ‘field picked’ style bouquets which are very much in fashion at the moment incorporate small delicate filler flowers, and are more affordable than clustered posies of full blooms. Roses can also be a cheaper option to other flowers such as Calla Lilies, Orchids, and Tulips. Your florist will be able to advise on these finer details affecting the pricings when you meet.
Question 3: I want something modern and cutting-edge, what flowers would work for my Wedding?
Answer: Depending on the season of your wedding there should be many flowers for you to choose from. Some of my modern styled brides for this year, are using a mixture of larger and smaller blooms in organic forms along with textured foliage and herbs. These bouquets use all different styles and textures of flowers from large Peonies, to garden Roses, deep coloured Calla Lilies, Sea Holly, Sweet Peas, Sim Carnations, Dahlias, Lisianthus and the list goes on. The trick is to choose complementing tones or colours, to those colours used for the bridesmaids and bridal gown as well as other styling details for the day.
Question 4: I’m Clueless! What’s the best way to start choosing the flowers to suit my Wedding day?
Answer: Get immersed within the wide range of wedding blog sites available! I have listed a large range of Australian and international wedding related inspiration sites on my website which I always direct my brides to when they don’t really know where to start. Just make sure you save the ones you love in a folder titled ‘flowers’ so when the time comes to contact a florist you already know what you want. You will love the amount of wedding related inspiration available to you at the click of your mouse.

So beautiful flowers! The first bouquet is in full bloom, though it is the combination of various flowers. Last white one is my lover. Thanks for the informative advice. Good job!
