Sweets for My Sweet, Sugar for My Honey

Candy Buffets are all the rage at weddings today and it’s not hard to see why. A smorgasbord of sugary delights inviting your guests to partake till their hearts content. Some brides use them as a replacement for wedding cake. Others get rid of favours all together and opt for a user-friendly-create-your-own-fun-bag kinda idea. And some Brides on the other hand, are just plain greedy. They have their cake and eat it too, followed promptly by dessert and a Candy Buffet on the side. Those weddings are the ones we all secretly dream of being invited to… Who cares if we have to pay for it with a serious sugar-hangover the next day?

The best Lolly Buffets in my opinion are done with a little class and a truckload lot of sweets. Plentiful is the way to go regardless of the type of candy you chose to supply. Sticking with your theme colours is a great way to make impact, or go down the road of ‘old time treats’ and dish-up the candy of yesteryear, transporting guests back to a place and time when eating Sherbet Cones was the hip thing to do.

The containers in which you display your sweet selection should also be given some thought. Consider varying heights of clear glass jars, filling the table with a feast for the eyes. Swirly lolly pops are perfect protruding out of large urns, and mini M&M’s will feel right at home in round lidded jars. Allow guests to serve themselves by providing metal scoops and tongs with take-away boxes or bags to carry their treasure home in. But whatever you do, don’t expect any left-overs. The treats you toiled over for all those months will vanish, leaving a path of sugar-filled Ferrero Rocher wrapper destruction in their wake. The poor wedding cake doesn’t even stand a chance. ♥
