The Empire Silhouette

The key design element in an Empire gown is the waistline. It sits above the natural waist,  just below the bust. The skirt is commonly free flowing a soft and can include varying types of embelishments such as laces and beading. Think Sense and Sensibility, Emma or Pride and Prejudice… Back in a time when an Empire style was prevalent and fashionable. Today designers can create a multitude of differing styles with an Empire line and one need not feel like a suppressed lady of the house while wearing it.  An Empire wedding dress is suited to someone who has a small bust, because it accentuates the decolletage and neckline but is also flattering for those with thicker waists or wider hips as the floaty skirt skims and conceals the silhouette. ♥
