The Last Sleeve

Back in the day it would have been improper, uncouth and just downright promiscuous to wear a gown that did not cover ones shoulders… Luckily, times have changed giving every bride the chance to wear the gown of her dreams. But what if you like sleeves? What if you love the idea of a more subtle, understated dress or simply wish for a little extra fabric to cover your arms? Do not fear, as the era of the last sleeve is here with some stunning alternatives.

Take a full length lace sleeve, a pretty bolero to match your gown, a dainty organza cap sleeve or even a flouncy short drape, all designed to soften the female form. Whether you want to flatter your upper body or just draw attention to other parts, a sleeve is a delicate and feminine way to do it. Take this stunning Enzoani Mermaid lace gown for example. It’s elongated open sleeves combined with a flattering plunging neckline, fitted body to the knee and modern mermaid skirt provide an elegant way to wear a modest gown, without sacrificing on sophistication. Anyone who says these featured gowns look old-fashioned and dated simply doesn’t have a clue…

So whether your purchasing your dream gown off the rack or having a couture one made to your specifications, why not consider a sleeve… It might give you the little coverage you need to allow the best of you to shine though. ♥

I love dresses with or withous sleeves, but the one I saw that I liked the most for covering a bit of arm was a sleeveless dress with a white lace shrug that wrapped around the body and tied at the waist - three quarter sleeves. I wish I remembered where it was from…
